U.S. Cyclist Magnus White Killed While Training For UCI World Championships

American cyclist Magnus White, who was training for the upcoming UCI World Championships in Scotland, was killed after being struck by a vehicle over the weekend.

USA Cycling reported that a car struck the 17-year-old junior cyclist Saturday while he rode near his home in Boulder, Colorado.

"It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share the news that 17-year-old Magnus White has passed away in a training accident," USA Cycling said in a statement. "Magnus White was struck by a car on a bike ride in his home of Boulder, Colorado. White was focused on his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the Junior Men's Mountain Bike Cross Country World Championships on August 10, 2023."

White was one of the rising stars in the U.S. scene, focusing on off-road in cyclocross and mountain biking. He was making his his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow, Scotland.

In 2021, he won the Junior 17-18 cyclocross national championships and raced with USA Cycling at the European cyclocross events. He would go on in 2022 to race the worlds at home in Arkansas and place second in the nationals. And again, pulling on the national team jersey this last winter at the Hoogerheide Cyclocross World Championships

USA Cycling added, "He was a rising star in the off-road cycling scene and his passion for cycling was evident through his racing and camaraderie with his teammates and local community."

White is survived by his parents Michael and Jill, and his brother Eero. A GoFundMe is established in the memory of Magnus.
