Top 10 2023 Women Transfers

In 2023, teams such as AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step are investing into womens cycling and many other teams are growing their programs across various cycling disciplines.

Here are FloBikes staff picks for the top 10 women transfers of 2023.

10) Zoe Backstedt, Joining EF Education-TIBCO-SVB

18 year old Zoe Backstedt is coming off a banner year. She began her 2022 by winning the junior world title at the UCI Cyclocross World Championships. She went on to secure a second rainbow jersey in the Madison at junior track worlds, and she finished her road season off by winning both the junior time trial and junior road race in Wollongong. Bäckstedt now joins the World Tour with EF Education-TIBCO-SVB, a team that has started to diversify its program over the past few years with signings of riders such as Clara Honsinger and Emily Joy Newsom.

9) Ashleigh Moolman, Joining AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step

SD Worx loses a strong rider with South African Ashleigh Moolman's transfer to AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step. Moolman, an all-rounder, is a marquee signing for the new Belgian elite team. AG Insurance’s team motto in 2023 is to support the next generation of women’s cycling and with Moolman on their team, they have the firepower to take the team to the next level and work towards achieving World Tour status in the near future.

8) Amanda Spratt, Joining Trek-Segafredo

Australian Amanda Spratt of BikeExchange-Jayco join the powerhouse team of Trek-Segafredo in 2023, and she isn’t the only one; Gaia Realini (neo-pro), Lisa Klein (from Canyon-SRAM), Brodie Chapman (from FDJ-Suez-Futuroscope), and Ilara Sanguineti (from Valcar-Travel & Service) are all slated to bolster the American squad’s roster next year. With heavy-hitters such as Lucinda Brand, Elisa Balsamo, Lizzie Diegan, Eliza Longo Borghini and Ellen Van Dijk already on the team, Trek-Segafredo will be a hard team to beat in 2023.

7) Alison Jackson, Joining EF Education-TIBCO-SVB

Alison Jackson, Canadian road race and time trial national champion brings a lot of strength and experience to EF Education-TIBCO-SVB. Jackson will be instrumental in the spring classics alongside the likes of Lauren Stephens, Clara Honsinger and Emily Joy Newsom. Her infamous Tik Tok dance moves must have helped to seal the deal on this crowd favorite transfer.

6) Lisa Klein, Joining Trek-Segafredo

In 2021, Lisa Klein helped Germany power to gold medals in both the Olympic team pursuit, and the team time trial at the UCI road world championships. Trek-Segafredo is a team that recognizes the value of time trial powerhouses. Whether Klein is winning races, or working for team leaders, expect to see a lot of Klein at the front of the peloton this spring.

5) Fem Van Empel, Joining Jumbo Visma

20-year old Fem Van Empel has been building up her palmares in both mountain biking and cyclocross in her short neo-professional career. The current U23 CX champion, Van Empel is setting a new standard of excellence against her competitors, bunnyhopping barriers in almost every race which has helped her remain undefeated in the UCI Cyclocross world cup standings.

4) Chiara Consonni, Joining UAE Team ADQ

Italian Chiara Consonni, who recently helped Italy power to a team pursuit world title, will bring her considerable strength to UAE Team ADQ in 2023. Consonni, a former winner of Dwars door Vlaanderen and Dwars door de Westhoek, will bolster UAE’s prospects in the spring classics. Former Valcar-Travel & Service teammates Silvia Persico and Olivia Baril are making the move to UAE alongside Consonni.

3) Lorena Wiebes, Joining SD Worx

Dutch cyclist Lorena Weibes, the current European road champion, makes the move next season to SD Worx. SD Worx has been rebuilding their roster after the retirement of Anna van der Breggen. There are few riders, if any, that can fill the void left by van der Breggen, but Wiebes is one that can come close. Wiebes joins the likes of Lotte Kopecky, Niamh Fisher-Black and Demi Vollering on a young and talented SD Worx roster.

2) Mavi García, Joining Liv Racing–Xstra

Mavi-Garcia, the current Spanish national road and time trialist champion, will join Liv Racing-Xstra in 2023. Garcia is Liv’s highest profile signing in several years. According to the staff of Liv, Garcia will provide leadership to the young team as well as bring her experience in being successful at stage racing as well as one-day classics.

1) Pauline Ferrard-Prevot, Joining INEOS Grenadiers

Pauline Ferrard-Prevot joining the ranks of INEOS Grenadiers is historic both for the British team, and for women’s cycling. INEOS was the most dominant and well funded men’s team for most of the past decade. Despite the team’s resources, they have resisted launching a women’s program, while competitors like Jumbo-Visma and Movistar now field full Women’s WorldTour squads.

Ferrand-Prevot’s arrival at INEOS ushers in a new era at the British squad and signals their interest in both women’s cycling and in off-road disciplines. Tom Pidcock broke the road-focused INEOS mold by winning the Tokyo Olympics XCO race and the 2022 UCI cyclocross world title. Ferrand-Prevot, the current UCI XCO, XCC and Marathon mountain bike world champion, and UCI Gravel world champion will now race an exclusively off-road program for INEOS in 2023.
