Mathieu Van Der Poel will begin his first grand tour this June at the 2021 Tour de France.
Not only has Van der Poel routinely proven that he is capable of most anything on a bicycle, the Dutchman's family history with the Tour de France tells a story.
On his mother's side of the family, Van der Poel's grandfather, the late Raymond Poulidor famously finished the Tour de France in second place overall on three separate occasions without ever actually donning the yellow jersey.
Meanwhile, Van der Poel's father, Adri has two Tour de France stage wins to his name.
Following another successful spring classics campaign and a bit of mid-season mountain biking, Van der Poel arrived at the Tour de Suisse on flying form. Will we see Mathieu in yellow this year? Don't bet against it.
